Learn to Facilitate Good Meetings and Processes

an iceberg showing that facilitation is more than sticky notes and workshop exercises

Have you ever walked out of a meeting thinking:

  • Why did we spend two hours discussing without reaching a decision?

  • Why were only a few people speaking?

  • How is it possible that a group with this much expertise struggles to move forward?

Most of us spend large parts of our lives in groups. Even so, few of us have ever learned how to help groups think, learn, make decisions and create together in a good way.

Research shows that employees spend an average of 31 hours per month in meetings that produce no meaningful results — that’s almost four full working days. And 71% of all meetings are considered unproductive.

This is where skilled facilitation comes in.

On Tuesday, October 20th, from 1–5 PM, we’re hosting a workshop at Villhuset where you can learn how to do this!

What is process facilitation?

Process facilitation is about helping people think, learn, make decisions, and create together more effectively.

A skilled facilitator creates the conditions for everyone in the group to contribute their knowledge, perspectives, and experience.

This course offers a practical introduction to process facilitation. Through exercises, observation, reflection, and dialogue, we will explore questions such as:

  • What is my role and responsibility as a process facilitator?

  • When should I step in, and when should I step back?

  • How can I create an environment where people feel safe enough to contribute openly and honestly?

  • How do I respond when a conversation takes an unexpected direction?

What can you expect?

Past participants tell us they come away with greater confidence in the facilitator role, practical tools they can put to use straight away, a deeper understanding of group dynamics, and a clearer sense of their own facilitation style.

"For me there was a clear before and after this process facilitation course. I immediately felt more confident and more daring in the role of process facilitator."

Marie – former participant

Why are there always two facilitators?

At Bergen Facilitation Collective, we see facilitation as a collective practice and as a craft that takes time to develop. We meet regularly to challenge one another, share experiences, experiment and keep developing our practice.

This course reflects that philosophy: There will always be at least two facilitators from the collective present. In this way, we invite others into a learning process that we are part of ourselves.

Past participants have told us that one of the most valuable things about the training isn't only what is taught, but the chance to watch facilitators collaborate, improvise and support each other in real time.

A starting point – or something more?

For some, this training stands well on its own. For others, it becomes the beginning of a longer learning journey.

You can continue by:

  • Attending our open, facilitated events such as Warm Data Labs

  • Exploring specific facilitation methods and frameworks in future courses:

  • Learn to lead visual meetings and workshops (November 25th 2026)

The Trainers

Maren Drewes is a trained systemic process facilitator, lecturer in critical thinking, and coach with a hypnosystemic approach. She is the initiator of the Bergen Facilitation Collective and co-founder of BSPW (Berlin) and F.EKS. (Bergen). The names mean “for example” and reflect her conviction that the most valuable expertise already exists within the people and systems she works with.

For almost 15 years, Maren has explored regenerative leadership and co-creation, facilitating change processes in more than 50 organisations. She supports processes from the first spark of an idea through the often complex and unpredictable stages of implementation, always guided by the question: What enables people and initiatives to thrive in a complex and dynamic world?

Maren combines systemic thinking with an open, experimental approach and a finely tuned awareness of relationships, dynamics, and context. She creates spaces where people can learn, experiment, and act in new ways. She is known for building trust, navigating complexity, and activating collective intelligence — always with the aim of unlocking the potential that already exists within the system.

Torhild Eide Torgersen holds a master’s degree in economics and business administration and is also a Kaospilot, NLP coach, Lightning Process instructor, and EQ therapist. In autumn 2024, she began a four-year part-time training programme in psychospiritual therapy in Denmark.

She works at Vinje & Eriksen, having previously spent three years as a senior consultant at the AFF Foundation at the Norwegian School of Economics (NHH). There, she was part of the team behind the Solstrand Programme Accelerate, led Gnistuken, and worked as a coach and leadership developer for organisations of all sizes. Earlier in her career, she spent seven years at Design Region Bergen, where she served as cluster manager for the design cluster and led work on experimentation. She has also founded and run two companies of her own.

Torhild is deeply engaged in emotions and relationships. She meets people with curiosity, warmth, and playfulness, combined with solid knowledge and professional expertise. Over the past 16 years, she has worked as a coach, facilitator, project manager, and educator, and has an exceptional ability to connect with people, help them relax, and create a sense of trust and safety.

Torhild brings both analytical and creative strengths to every project she takes on, always beginning with the purpose of the work.
