Accessibility

Built to be used by everyone

This site is built and tested against WCAG 2.2 level AA on every change. That is an aim rather than a certificate: automated checking finds part of what is wrong with a page, not all of it.

What we aim at

WCAG 2.2 level AA, across every page, in both languages, and both with and without JavaScript. The legal minimum for an association like ours is the older WCAG 2.0 A and AA, so this is deliberately stricter than the requirement.

We do not claim to conform. Claiming it would mean somebody had audited the site against the standard, and nobody has.

What is checked, and when

Every change to this site is checked before it ships: a rule engine over every page, measured colour contrast, a keyboard traversal, a pass with the operating system's high-contrast mode on, and a check that nothing overflows at 320 pixels or at 200% zoom. Every one of those runs over both languages and both versions of every page.

Three checks that cannot be automated have also been done by hand: navigating the whole site with only a keyboard, reading it at 200% zoom, and viewing it as somebody with each of the common forms of colour blindness would. Dates are in the project's own documentation.

None of this is an annual audit. It runs on every change, which is the only way a site stays accessible rather than becoming so once.

Choices that were made for this

If something does not work

Please tell us. A barrier you hit is worth more to us than any automated check, and it is how we find the things our tooling cannot.

It helps if you can say which page, what you were trying to do, and what you were using — a screen reader, keyboard only, zoom, a phone. Any of it is useful; none of it is required.

We are a small collective and we answer as people rather than as a desk, so give us a few days.

If we do not fix it

Accessibility of Norwegian websites is supervised by Digitaliseringsdirektoratet (uutilsynet). You can raise it with them, whether or not you have raised it with us first.

When this page changes

It changes when what it describes changes, and the date above changes with it — the date is checked against the text of this page by the site's own tests, so it cannot quietly fall behind. The day somebody does run a screen reader over this site, the first section of this page will be the one that changes.
